Give your front door a makeover. Like the first day of class, a networking event, or your first day on the job, we all wear our snappiest outfits to make a great first impression. Nothing else makes as memorable a first impression as a remarkable front door. Whether you're looking to sell your house or just need to add some oomph to your home's curb appeal, these tips and trends will make your home the talk of the neighborhood.
What's hot now is a boldly painted front door. If you go this route, it is important that your color choice matches the style and exterior of your home. A rule of thumb is to stick with tones in the "jewel family" and pastels. Some of my favorites are deep purple, lavender, turquoise (one of the most popular), rich blue, teal, and dingy orange. Gray exteriors compliment pastel colored doors. Think Spring. Dark brick and dark siding are complimented well by dark colored doors. Think Autumn and Winter. Mid-toned brick and siding look great with bright colored doors. Think Summer. White and tan exteriors go with pretty much anything, including a classy wood stain.
SYMMETRY: What you do to one side, be sure you do the other. It's a simple concept, but immediately creates a clean and inviting feeling for your home.
ENLIGHTENING: Lights can make a world of difference for your front door. Lantern lights look great beside just about any style door at any time of day. Also, pick up a few landscape lights to lighten the walkway and create a warm glow for your entrance. ACCESSORIZE: Wreaths can be a great front door accessory, but open your mind and get even more creative. After all, you're not decorating your grandma's house. Some door jewelry I have seen lately includes initials, anchor door knockers, fancy numbers, hydrangea wreaths, and more. Pinterest is a great place to look for ideas
