About The Porch
Tyler and Sandi had discussed buying a home for several months. One day last Winter, I got the email. "Sami, can you help us find our first house?" Not being married yet, the home would be purchased and inhabited by Tyler until some later date when the couple married. For a few months, I worked with Tyler to help him find the perfect home. We wavered back and forth on a few different properties until we really found "The One" (pun intended - keep reading). What ended up being the perfect house for Tyler and Sandi was a new build in an up-and-coming neighborhood called Biddleville. A stunning craftsman bungalow built by local builders, the house features dark hardwoods throughout, stainless appliances, 2 full rocking chair front porches, a breathtaking Uptown Charlotte view, and more. This neighborhood is home to Johnson C. Smith University, a historically black college. Biddleville neighbors Wesley Heights and other transitional neighborhoods on the west side of Charlotte that are predicted to have a bright future ahead. Tyler closed on his home on April 17th.
About The Proposal
Fast-forward to just a few days later when Tyler asks Sandi to celebrate their dating anniversary at one of their favorite restaurant spots, 5 Church, in Uptown. The date of this celebration was April 22nd, which also happened to be the 22nd month of dating for the couple. Before dinner, Tyler drives them to his new house to show Sandi a "housewarming gift" he had gotten for them... something Tyler said "they had both been wanting." Tyler asks Sandi to stay in the car while he gets the house ready for her to see... she expected the gift to be either a fence or a puppy because that's all she could think of that they had both been wanting. After a few minutes of waiting, Sandi walks into the house and is greeted with an aisle of rose petals down the hallway. The roses led to different stations, each with a list of 22 items leaving the 1st one blank.
Bedroom 1 - "Sandi, I love..." with 21 things he loves about her Bedroom 2 - "Sandi, I want..." with 21 things he wants for their marriage Bedroom 3 - "Sandi, I need..." with 21 things he needs for/from her in marriage
The final station was at the front door and it read "Sandi, I love #1 YOU, I want #1 TO MARRY YOU, I need #1 "YOU TO SAY YES!" After reading the list, Sandi went outside on the front porch where Tyler awaited. Tyler, on one knee, asks her to be his wife. Sandi said YES and Tyler put a ring on it! A porch proposal success. Next fall, the two will become one and will dwell in their new home as the newlywed Mr and Mrs. Scott.
